Ode’ 2 The 82′ Tercel

Back in 96′, my parents decided that I need a car. They bought me this junker 82′ Toyota Tercel – at a good deal too. $500.00

At first the car always broke down when it came to a stop – unless you put it in Park really quick. It was really fun at stoplights . . .

The heat only came out on top, near the windshield. So you’d be freezing your ass off in the middle of winter.

Power steering. What’s that?

Oh, and you know those defroster on the back window – those weren’t working either.

$1200.00 dollars later, most of the major problems were fixed.

Wudan & I had a nick for my car, “Good Motor.” Let me explain how that nick came to be.

One day, I was heading from Downtown, Salt Lake City to West Valley City – couple of miles. I was heading there to hang out with a couple of friends. I think it was to hang out with Wudan, right?

Anyways, I hit the evening traffic. I was at the on-ramp to merge with the rest of the world. Going about 10MPH, checking my blind spot, and just as I turned back, the lady in front of me had come to a complete stop. I try to over correct so I wouldn’t hit her but all my attempts were useless. I hit her bumper causing my left front side to be significantly dented.

So I needed to replace the left side, Wudan and I went to the junkyard and pulled a panel off another 82′ Tercel. There was chalk writing on the panel that said, “Good motor.” I don’t know what they wrote with but it never came off. So we ended up calling the 82′ Tercel, ‘Good Motor.’
