Barnard the trainer

So when we joined the gym – they scheduled a session with their trainer. They claim to do a whole body assessment and tell you how to get to your goals. But really, it’s just another avenue of bring in money for the gym. I think people who benefit from having a personal trainer either have no knowledge of what exercises to do for toning and have money to spend on it.

I believe that you can find resources online to help you and you don’t have to pay into the trainer program. A good site is Gyminee – they have a session completely devoted to workout programs.

We had our trainer session and afterward, we just flat out refused to get into that program. (later I’ll post the results from my total body assessment).

So we’ve been going to the gym for three-four weeks now. . . . and I have to admit I don’t really go and work out in the gym. I go to the aerobics classes. And I have been seeing good results.

So last night, the trainer (we’ll call him Barnard) who tried to sell us on the training program stops me and asks me how’s the classes going. I told him they’re going great, I’ve lost 6 pounds since I’ve joined. Barnard then responds:

“You know, the classes are really for people who are maintaining.”

“Oh then there are two people in that classes that are “maintaining” because most of the people in there are out of shape just like me” - me

“You should really be using the gym out here” – Barnard

“The classes I’m attending have weights in them and they target different areas and not the same ones all the time.” - me

I politely said my goodbye, but I was pissed off.

It’s like I’m doing my damnest to get into shape. Seriously working out like 4x a week. Watching my calorie intake like a hawk. I’m getting good results. The last thing I need is a trainer trying to bring me down.

I’m sure he’s coming from a good place but his approach was just annoying.

My current obsession. . . is getting into shape.

Yup and it’s all going to be recorded here on the blog. . . .

Don’t worry – it will have a special tag of “Gabrielle” and if you don’t want to hear about it. . then just move on. But I doubt anyone visits this blog anymore.

My goal is to lose 17 pounds. . . I don’t think I have set a really hard deadline on that. I would like to see the weight off and gone by May-ish. . .maybe the end.

Wudan and I have joined the gym. The really close one to our house. (choosing not to plug them on my pathetic blog). So far we’ve worked out 2x since we’ve joined this week. I was planning to hit them tonight – but there’s a girl’s night that I have to attend (dinner at the Ihop). Saturday morning, I’m going to an aerobics class called. . . (drumroll please). . . Butts N’ Guts. (permission to giggle at the name). I went to it on Wednesday night and well for the last (2) days my butt & legs are sore. Which is a good sign right? That means my fat ass got a good workout. :D

But then I was researching muscle soreness and read this:

I’m imaging tears in my muscles. . kind of creep’d me out. I don’t know why. . it just does.

I hope to work out for the first 2 weeks 3x, then up to 4x, and hopefully get to 5x (crzy right?).

I’m very motivated to lose the weight and get fit. I don’t know what bug crawled up my ass and planted this idea in my brain. . . it’s there now and I’m not letting it go.
